HISTORY of BSIDES SEATTLE
– BSides Seattle started, as with so many great things, with a conversation over good food. We knew Seattle needed a conference, and a small group of hackers was determined to make it happen. The first year, we had 150 participants in a day of talks + two hands-on workshops.
– The popularity from our first year expands the conference to two speaking tracks as well as workshops with 160 participants.
- BSides moved to its current location of the Microsoft Conference Center.
/2016 – The addition of community villages expanded our offering & we hosted 285 attendees.
- Increased college outreach program, with a goal of getting more students connected with industry mentors, 360+ Participants.
– New electronic badges were integrated with the hardware hacking village; with over 470 participants.
– Responded to a snowpocolyse and all the fun stuff that comes with 8 inches of snow forcing the event to move dates; Even with that, we had over 550 attendees and introduced our accelerating diversity efforts.
– Shifted to a virtual conference.
– Cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic.
– Returned to an in-person event where we capped attendance at 400 participants.
– 10th anniversary celebration, doubling down on professional development and diversifying the community spaces!
