Hello all,
Oh what a year it has been. We are in the final stretch for an amazing virtual conference. Big thanks to our sponsors, volunteers and you all for your support and patience. Schedule is up: https://www.bsidesseattle.com/2020-schedule.html Check out the speaker line up, and sign up for session reminders. How will I see the talks? Links to the talk rooms will be posted into the Bsides Seattle Discord Server. We are using GoToWebinar, which will allow you to watch via browser or their application. What do I need to do to get the links? (CRITICAL STEPS!) Create and verify an account on Discord. This is where the conversation happens! Get time with speakers after talks to learn more, connect with the community, learn about job opportunities with our sponsors and get the all the data needed to enjoy the day! On saturday morning, you will receive a link invite for the Bsides Discord Server. Follow it, signing in with the verified discord account. I want to CTF! Sign up for the secure coding CTF here: https://discover.securecodewarrior.com/BSidesSeattle-tournament.html
I want to pick locks! The Lockpick village will be doing presentations throughout the day. If you want to follow along, try to have locks similar to these to practice.
Message from Wham: 2020... Not quite the year we expected. I hope this message finds you all well, healthy, and with loved ones. Bsides Seattle has been my passion for almost a decade now, and we've seen alot... from Tiny Pizza disasters to brandy dragon flights. Each year I get more fired up for the next year, excited to bring new and amazing oppurtunities. I'm sad that we don't all get to connect in person this year, But I am ecstatic that we still get to learn, explore, and evolve. Thank you all for being a part of this journey. See you all in discord! HackerHugs, Josh Michaels Bsides Seattle Founder

Hello All,
Oh my what a year we’ve had! I joked earlier that after having to enact BCDR plans for Seattle Snowmageddon 2019, that this year will be a breeze. I accept responsibility for my part in inviting trouble. That said, our community is strong, supportive and ready for all challenges. Big Announcement I’m sure it will come as little surprise, Bsides Seattle 2020 will be held virtually this year. Ensuring the health and safety of our community attending Bsides Seattle is one of my core priorities. Bringing thousands of people to an enclosed space is not a risk we are going to take. While I am disappointed that we won’t be able to enjoy our usual in person learnings, revelry, and hackery discoveries… I am excited about the changes going virtual allows us this year. Below are a few of the big ones. Change 1: We are moving the conference to Saturday, October 17th, 2020. This is good, as the prior date overlapped with our fellow Bsides Portland conference (due to space availability). Change 2: With the removal of space limitations, we will be running an additional CFP, opening it up to speakers world wide. By the power of the internets, bringing global content to the community. The round 2 CFP will open in the next 2 weeks (no later than August 1) Change 3: Recorded sessions! That’s right, if the speaker allows it, sessions will be recorded for future review. We will be broadcasting sessions in webinar style. Change 4: A Bsides Seattle Discord server will provide social and connection time. Thank you all for your support, engagement and flexibility as we evolve with the times. More information to come as we finalize plans. I hope you are all as well as possible, taking breaks when needed, and ready for a great 2020 Bsides Conference. Happy Hackery, Josh Michaels Bsides Seattle Founder FAQ: Are tickets still available? A: Yes, you can still register for the conference and for the workshops. If you sign up for a workshop, the conference admission is included! Q: How will I log in to the workshops and conference? A: People who registered for workshops and/or the conference will be sent connection information to the email address used on registration. Q: I really enjoy the social aspect of conferences. How will you recreate that? A: This is a huge focus for us. We have spoken with other conference organizers about how they did this, and by adding a Discord server for attendees, the interactions are often even more social! Q: Will you have a Capture the Flag contest? A: Currently still YES! Q: What about next year? A: We plan to be back to having an in-person conference in 2021. Q: I can’t make it and need a refund. How do I get one? A: Just go back to our Eventbrite site and request one. We’ll miss you and hopefully you’ll join us again next year. (Thank you Layer 8 for your FAQ framework) Greetings Bsides Seattle Community,
Message from Wham: First off, this community is amazing. Thank you for the support in this extraordinary time. There have been many hard decisions made in the last 3 weeks and you’ve helped us greatly with your messages and reaching out. As a community conference founder, one of my top priorities is the wellness of this community. Last year, it was the dangerous weather conditions that really worked out our BCDR muscles. Nothing quite like shifting an entire conference under a week before the event. Hindsight taught me it was the right decision, putting community safety first is always correct. This year, we face something new, and we rise to the challenge with calm manner, intelligent assessment, and a healthy dose of hacker get-it-done attitude. We will get through this… and have yet another tale to share over our next beverage. Please look below for information regarding the 2020 conference. If you have further questions, email info@bsidesseattle.com ( Response time will vary based on events). Thanks again all. This is the only date we were able to secure with the Venue. There is a downside as it is the same day as Bsides Portland. Our Portland friends are amazing, and put on a great conference, and we always work to not overlap. This year will be the only year we do, and I am really saddened by it (Partially because I was attending!). Location: Location has not changed. Tickets: If you have already secured a ticket for Bsides Seattle 2020, and are attending in October: no actions needed If you have already secured a ticket for Bsides Seattle 2020, and are not attending in October: Please request a refund via your eventbrite ticket. If you don’t have a ticket yet and want to attend in October, go here http://tickets.bsidesseattle.com/ Call for Papers: We are working with our current speakers to confirm capabilities for the October date. Once complete, we will assess if an additional Call for Papers is warranted. Estimate further information by April. Volunteers: If you have signed up to volunteer at the conference, confirm with the Volunteer coordinator your availability for October. We will assess needs and see if an additional call for volunteers is needed. Estimate further information by April. CTF: We will be closing CTF registration temporarily while we work with our CTF team on next steps. Those who have already signed up will have their place honored in CTF line. King County COVID Recommendations: ww.kingcounty.gov/covid/recommendations Questions: If you have further questions, email info@bsidesseattle.com ( Response time will vary based on events). Hello all,
With the recent updates on the status of COVID-19 and the newly enacted Washington State mandate prohibiting large events until at least the end of March 2020, we have made the difficult decision to postpone Bsides Seattle. The health and safety of our attendees is paramount. Even with the enhanced safety and prevention measures in place, we cannot in good conscience hold the event this April. The new date for Bsides Seattle is October 24th, 2020. We understand this may conflict with other events or plans, but this is the only date we have space available as many organizations seek to respond to the evolving news. Further details will be announced in the next 48 hours.Thank you for your patience as we adapt to the situation. Thank you all, stay safe. I'm happy to announce that Bsides Seattle 2020 CFP and tickets have gone live! http://tickets.bsidesseattle.com/ Call for Presentations So hey, I know you're sitting there going.. You are doing interesting things, come spread knowledge and inspire others to explore. Find a new partner in research, make connections and have that heart lifting moment when someone says "Your presentation was awesome!" . You don't know until you try.
